Peter Kent, is a Conervative Party of Canada candidate in the next Canadian Federal Election. Peter Kent is also a deputy editor of Global Television News. Kent, himself, brought this conflict of interest to the fore when he wrote a letter to journalism schools in Canada calling them to investigate the media's bias against the Conservative Party in Canada.
Mr Kent defended his tendentious position by saying, "I don't take any part in anything that involves content." Simply because he doesn't currently influence news content, does Kent believe he can draw attention to bias in the media, without being seen as biased himself?
Surely the real issue is not so much his position in the media, more his position in the Canadian Conservative party which colors his claims.
His experience as a news anchor, before his political career, would normally give his claims some degree of credibility. But now there is no way Kent's claims can be seen as anything but politically motivated, regardless of whether there is liberal bias in the Canadian media.
Due to his position in the news media Kent could have encouraged serious discussion regarding bias in the Canadian media. However he destroys his Bernard Goldberg-esque insiders credibility with his politcal allegiances.
