As a group, we touched on this last week, and now The New York Times is taking a closer look at it – the repercussions of the investigation into the Valerie Plame leak may result in more journalists being called to court to answer for their sources.
A report from the Silberman-Robb commission as well as the House Intelligence Committee suggest that getting reporters to leak the leaks is the future of these types of investigation. With the threat of exposure looming, sources may become too nervous to talk to reporters, making it harder to get stories on sensitive topics. The crackdown would result in fewer leaks, but a side effect may be a less effective media.
