“Che Should be Scorned—Not Worn”

This is the best headline I’ve seen since the Post ran “Biz Boob Busts Bank for Babes” a couple of weeks ago.

This hilarious and skewed Op-Ed in USA Today was a warning, apparently, to any crazy kiddies who thought about dressing up as the patron saint of stylish radicals for Halloween. I’m not kidding. The article is just as funny as the headline, and has one of the best kickers I’ve read in a while.

So, instead of Che being held up as a beacon of peace and justice, let us hereafter revel in his futility. He'll be an exemplar of the idea that hard work does not always pay off. In fact, I already have a new shirt in mind. Take the same iconic picture of Che and just add the heading, "I tried to conquer the evil Yankee imperialists and all I got was this stupid T-shirt."

I’d just like to find out if A) this dude’s been living in a closet for the last decade, or however long the Che phenomenon has been in full swing, and B) if he’s ever heard of the Cuba Embargo or the Helms-Burton Act, ala his assertion that “[Che’s] single enduring political achievement, Cuba, is not even threatening enough to make the Axis of Evil.”

It might very well be that Cuba isn’t associated with the “Axis.” But I would say that's because its general wickedness is assumed. Cuba has, after all, endured US-imposed economic sanctions for nearly half a century. If that doesn't score it some points with the quantifiers of evil, I'm not sure what would.
