I bet if you asked an average person out on the street what was going on in the world, or in the country, even the least informed person out there would be able to tell you that we’re at war, there’s something going on with the Supreme Court, and any number of other things depending on where they’re from.
So why in the world is this newsworthy?! Not that I don’t care. I feel bad for the cows and for the farmer that lost them, but come on now. It’s not really all that interesting a piece of news. Apparently there wasn’t much more to the story either, since the “article†is exactly 5 lines long. So why even write it?
At least this article about bull semen was funny. Maybe not very newsworthy either, but good for a chuckle.

I think I'd contend that there is probably a longer version of the cows-struck-by-lightning story out there somewhere. It may not be interesting to you, but there's a dairy farmer out there somewhere who'd like to know more. (And maybe there's a supermarket somewhere in Sydney having a special on beef...) But that's the thing about local news, isn't it? It's only of interest to people in that locality.
Moo.
