Hey...Who Turned Out the Lights?

It was a scene all right – a darkened Jackson Square in Louisiana with floodlights dramatically encompassing the lush green grass and historic Saint Louis Cathedral; our leader standing strong at the podium. But wait…isn’t New Orleans completely without power? Where did all the lights come from? Oh – they came from the generators that were flown in special for the presidential address.

Hmmmm. I bet there are a lot of homeless people who could have used some generators about, lets say, a WEEK OR TWO AGO!

These generators did provide the American viewers with some beautiful background during the presidential address - did anyone notice that Bush’s shirt was buttoned wrong? Where’s Laura when you really need her. Thank goodness everyone has their priorities straight during this terrible natural disaster.

I don’t know if the portable power was provided by the television stations or by the Bush administration – but I can bet you whoever it was didn’t think about leaving them behind to provide some much needed electricity for people who are still stranded. Check out this blog entry by Brian Williams...it's an eye opener.

Maureen Dowd also addresses this in her column in the NYT today. It was just so tasteless.
