Blatantly shallow and loving it

Because current women's magazines were simply not doing enough to inform women of their physical flaws and the infinite surgical procedures that offer plastic perfection, a group of cosmetic surgeons took it upon themselves to champion the cause. Oh good.

But before I continue, it's important that you realize that "SKIN DEEPâ„¢ is NOT a new beauty magazine!" Its authors, publishers, advertisers and everyone else involved with the new, quarterly magazine are adamant about this fact and say as much on the official skindeepworld.com website:

SKIN DEEPâ„¢ magazine's mission is to educate readers about the fascinating, everchanging world of cosmetic plastic surgery, skin care, anti-aging and health and medicine. SKIN DEEPâ„¢ contains informative, yet entertaining, articles written by American and international Board-Certified plastic surgeons & physicians who volunteer their time, expertise and knowledge to impart cutting-edge information that readers can understand.

SKIN DEEPâ„¢ fulfills an important need for accurate information by satiating the public's interest in bettering oneself inside & out.

Now that we've cleared that up, let's take a look at some of the magazine's featured articles. We've got "Lip Obsession: In Search of the Perfect Pout," "Booty Envy," "What Men Think About Breast Implants," and my favorite (from a previous issue) - "Lunchtime Lipo." Phew...and to think I thought this magazine was going to be all about beauty!

In any case, I can't say I didn't see this one coming. It makes sense simply looking at the astonishing increase in plastic surgeries in America over the past few years. But in all seriousness, who is really going to buy this magazine off of newsstands? Do the women (and men) who seek out cosmetic surgery really want to open themselves up to public scrutiny? Maybe the magazine will get by on subscription alone, but I'd give anything to see someone walk up to a vendor, put aside all dignity and sense of self worth, and ask for the latest copy of Skin Deep. For those willing to try it out, the latest issue will be available in stores on January 26th.
