I don’t usually think of National Geographic as a news magazine, but I really liked reading their online news coverage of Hurricane Katrina. While newspapers and “hard news†outlets are often constrained by time, headline potential, and reader expectations, the National Geographic webpage delivers hurricane coverage in reader-friendly non-political feature stories. Check out “Still Struggling, Katrina’s Victims Tell Stories of Survival†for a good example. I’m not saying people should try to find daily news at nagionalgeographics.com, but the NG coverage is a refreshing change from the daily cycle of Hurricane stories.
