The Better Half of a Century

Sam takes about three walks a day with Buddy. Recently, on a walk, he ran into a friend who lives in the building. The man also has a dog, Charlie, who likes to bark at Buddy and Buddy seems to enjoy barking back. They sat down on a bench and while the dogs yapped away at each other the men talked.

“Sam, did you hear about the woman on my floor?”

“What?”

“The woman on my floor, the one who jumped.”

“She jumped?”

“She was old…and sick. It happened about a week ago.”

Sam looked at his friend and nodded his head, looking confused and upset.

“It’s a damn shame, too” the man said. “She had a hell of a view from that window.”
