New York Times May Not Be Publishing in 5 years

Ahem, this is some news (HT:drudge):

[Haaretz:] Given the constant erosion of the printed press, do you see the New York Times still being printed in five years?

[Sulzberger:] I really don't know whether we'll be printing the Times in five years, and you know what? I don't care either

Until they make wireless connections that work in the subways, I don't think the Times, the Post, or any other major print publication is going to be folding anytime soon. While Sulzberger's enthusiasm for the internet is both welcome and wise, the fact that he's "on a journey that will conclude the day the company decides to stop printing the paper" is a bit scary. Beefing up Internet content is a great idea - abandoning print is not. Both platforms serve their own purpose, and the best thing, for now at least, is to find a happy medium between the two.

At the same time, there are still Treos, Blackberries (Blackberrys?) and other handhelds that can still pick up feeds and store them while you're on the subway.

Don't forget, while it's been deemed impossible, even MTA has suggested extending networks into the tunnels in case of emergencies.

besides, everyone reads AM NY or METRO in the subway. they're not even real print...they're just the circle of recycling.
