Anna Trumps Iraq

Anna Nicole coverage trumps that of the war. An interesting breakdown of how media outlets handled both after the jump.

This handy chart compiled by the folks at Think Progress is pretty alarming. According to the site, NBC Nightly News discussed the war in Iraq for14 seconds compared to 3 minutes and 13 seconds devoted to the buxom blonde. CNN devoted about five and a half times as much coverage to Anna as it did the war.

Check out the chart here.

I've been extremely annoyed by the over-coverage of Anna Nicole Smith these past few days. Why is so much time devoted to her, when some other celebrities death barely make a blip in the media radar. But apparently, if this is what people of America want, at home watching the nightly news, can we argue with giving it to them?

The reason why so much time and interest is devoted to her death is because of how many parties are involved and the mysterious circumstances behind it. Not only is she famous, but she potentially left behind a half a billion dollar fortune to a six month old child who technically who has no father.

Of course people are going to be interested about who the father is and most importantly, who will get the money. This is why everyone who has ever slept with Anna Nicole Smith is now claiming, and fighting, to be the father of this baby and the controller of the fortune.

Her death was a catalyst for a juicy social story, not an end.

Her life was a better soap opera than anything that's ever been on daytime TV. While it may not be as significant as something like Iraq in terms of world order, it sure as hell is gonna help sell papers.

Never underestimate the power of a blonde.
