Small Town Paper Gets Blogging Right

My hometown newspaper, the Greensboro News & Record has its problems, but it's a great model of how newspapers should be embracing blogs. Circulation has been holding steady at around 100,000 for several years, but the News & Record decided to jump into the blogosphere nonetheless. Their website hosts 14 staff blogs and a few others as well.

The content of their blogs is a good mix of commentary and straight news with some sports and cooking tips thrown in too. The best of the staff blogs is Mark Binker's Capital Beat, in which he covers state politics with an eye on how they affect Greensboro.

The News & Record is a perfect example of how newspapers should be using blogs. They compliment and expand the paper's daily coverage and give reporters and editors a forum to discuss their pet issues.
