Theater Nerds Introduced to the "Weblog"

Theater addicts have discovered the possibility of blogging, perhaps the last of the entertainment world to come to make that important discovery. According to a New York Times article from earlier today, four New Yorkers are competing to see and blog about the most theater shows this year. Ruling out concerts even as theatrical as Barbara Streisand, these men have already seen atleast 20 shows (one has even seen 39) so far this year, and no they are not earning their living as theater critics.

In fact, they claim that their blog posts about shows are less about reviews or criticism. Their goal is to get as many views “out there” as possible, focusing more on promoting theater as a whole rather than any one specific show.

The contest seems more about self-enjoyment which is refreshing, but it’s striking that people of the theater world, especially off-broadway productions, haven’t turned to blogs before. For a group so nerdy as theater junkies, a group that can and want to see around 30 shows in a month and half, its rather surprising that they just decided blogging could be a good way to bring people more in touch with the performing arts world.
