FarsiTube May Still Be For You

Since my last YouTube post, I stumbled on FarsiTube! I’m curious if it will develop the same celebrity-driven culture or an American-celebrity focus.

Its rapid spread is due to none other than MySpace, Facebook, and Wikipedia –- all neo-media sites that network the web. Its creators) feel that the site serves the Persian and Iranian community, both within Iran and all of the Iranian expatriates scattered throughout the world.

While briefly browsing it just now, the videos are still a bit sparse, but their ideas of entertainment and culture are things local -- far from the godly status of all things Hollywood. Instead, “Little persian girl raps” and “Persian wedding knife: traditional knife dance to cut cake at wedding” are popular.

I can’t say quality is top-notch, but they’re somewhat relevant to their culture, probably nostalgic to the Iranian diaspora, and can be very educational for everyone non-Iranian or Farsi-speaking. Hooray for niche media spinoffs!
