BBC Hearts Anna Nicole, Too

My jaw dropped on Friday when I opened Safari, and on my homepage the number three story was Anna Nicole’s funeral.

What has happened to the world of journalism when one of the top three INTERNATIONAL stories is about Anna Nicole? I am used to seeing stories from Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea -- you know, the places where actual tragedies are occurring. But Anna Nicole being buried in the Bahamas? This warrants the front page of BBC Online?

I do not mean to marginalize her death, or the sad truth that three men are fighting over their supposed child not out of love or sympathy but because with that child comes Anna’s multi-million dollar fortune. Nor do I shy away from celebrity gossip news. But when I want celebrity gossip I turn on E! But, come on, I put the BBC as my homepage because it’s usually the perfect filter for American campy news stories. What's next, BBC? “Brangelina” and “TomKat?” I give up when that day comes.
