23 Ways to Bring More Traffic to Your Blog

We have now had two wildly successful bloggers come in as guest speakers into our class. The question that’s always asked by Patrick Phillips is how do we become an A-list blog?

Well, Professor Phillips, Darren Rowse, a writer for ProBlogger, has 23 ideas for us.

About a month ago, Rowse ran a weekend-long open discussion about ways to bring in more readers to your blog. We are already aware of some of the things that were suggested. Catchy titles, persistence, quality content, opinionated writers, and posting frequently are familiar ideas, and we are actively pursuing them.

But some new ideas came up that maybe we should look into more. Here are some examples: guest bloggers, offline promotion, newsletters, advertising, blog carnivals (?) and, my personal favorite, giving away free stuff.

While advertising, this mysterious blog carnival and gift giving may compromise our integrity as journalism students, it might be a good idea to look into “celebrity” guest bloggers and other ideas to get more links for our site.

We've invited guest bloggers to write for the Inside Traveler blog and it has been so successful that we plan to do more of it. We asked Asha Dornfest, the editor at Parent Hacks, a blog we love, for some tips on traveling with children, and her post was full of great ideas contributed by her readers: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/traveler/extras/blog/blog0701_5.html#parenthacks
