Geico's Caveman Goes Primetime

The sitcom-challenged ABC has ordered a pilot about the three cavemen from the hilarious Geico commercials. I fully support this endeavor.

The Geico commericals are one of the few things on TV that honestly make me laugh out loud. If the sitcom is as witty as the commercials, it'll be better than eating Magnolia Cupcakes on a lazy sunday.

The problem that may spoil the sugar rush is the issue of Geico itself. Making the sitcom a 22-minute advertisement for the company may push television into an even grosser form of advertiser-controlled entertainment.

Unless (!) they decide to start a new trend of commercial-free TV programs via sponsorship, like in the old days. Brand integration is already a staple in many shows. If we have to choose the lesser of two evils, please get rid of the even more annoying commercial interruptions.

On a side note, I will be in heaven if the cockney gecko is a supporting player.

what a terrible idea. stretching a twenty second commercial that is essentially a rip off of an old SNL sketch into a thirty minute show is not going to work. even though the caveman seems to have a wacky built-in fanbase, i don't think it'll be enough to keep this running more than a couple of episodes. in short, it's a novelty.

that said, i am pro-removing commercial breaks. they really harp on my viewing experience, man.
