Generation of Multi-Taskers

According to the New York Times, we are not as adept at multi-tasking as we may think. Whilemodern technology had made it possible for us to be in an almost constant state of connectedness, these incessant distractions are causing us to be less productive, according to this article.

While it’s obvious that distractions are, well, distracting, I do think this article raises some important questions. While technology allows us to take on more projects by its ability to store and organize information, it also allows us access to way more information than we need.

The excesses of the internet are especially distracting for me. I sat down to write this blog post two hours ago, and in that time, I checked both my e-mail accounts, I checked my MySpace a couple times, I did some Instant Messaging, I read some album reviews online and then downloaded those albums (uh, I mean “bought”), I received and replied to text messages and all while listening to music on my iTunes. And the worst part is that this is my usual homework routine.

I love the internet. But I can feel my attention span getting shorter as we speak.
