The Internet Can Become an Optometrist's Best Friend

Myopia, a.k.a. near-sightedness, is caused by focusing on "close-up objects such as a book or a computer for long periods of time." Now, with various hobbies arising that are related to the internet -- such as personal internet journals and blogs, popular blog websites, instant messaging and personal online profiles --the demand for glasses and contacts may increase.

As if the integration of television and computers into our lifestyle to compliment reading wasn't bad enough to help increase the number of people getting myopia, now we have a nice variety of internet hobbies to choose from so our odds start to get better.

I really don't think it's a coincidence that I have a very small degree of myopia (to the degree that I don't wear glasses most of the time), and it started when I was nearing my teens, while my brother has a severe degree of myopia and thus wears his glass all the time, and that was discovered shortly after he entered elementary school.

Who knows, Optometry may just be the next Pharmaceuticals (in demand, not scenario), with companies offering entry-level salaries up to a hundred grand and number of applicants in colleges soaring.

*- If an article has already been published on the increasing demand for optometrists with nice starting salaries then I stand outdated in that regard.
