A View From The Other Side

The war on Iraq and Google's "master plan" have been brilliantly summarized by UK artists. Infosthetics is a very clever blog that offers cross media information in a blended format. Stats, images, video, sound, etc etc allow for the condensation of media into easy to digest nuggets.

The two videos on Iraq and Google are really thought provoking, even though they only clock in at 2:00 and 3:00 respectively. I found myself zoning out to the voice over and focusing on the images, which dynamically evolve to correspond with the script, as they provide an interesting blend of iconography and graphic art to spark the viewers imagination. The stylized vintage aesthetic is an effective throwback to 50s PSAs; I found myself laughing a bit at some hammed up lines, but it ads to the charm.

Cuteness of the videos aside... I'm scared of Google. If this article's any indication of what's to come, Google's positioning itself to become the country's go to corporate entity for the IT industry. According to the Infosthetics boys, they're already getting into biotechnology and DNA testing, are in bed with the CIA (they're watching you), and collect personal information about everyone.

The US Military currently runs on Windows. With Google's growth, it's not impossible that they'll take Microsoft in the future. What's next, Iran gets Googlebombed? They've already got satellites circling Googleearth, strap on some Googlelasers and Googledeathstar's good to go...

Kind of amusing that the videos are hosted on Googlevideo and YouTube (owned by Goog... can't type it again); but, well, they've got that market on lock too.
