Nylon Connects Magazine to Online Media

Nylon magazine is having a contest through their Myspace page to find a band for the June/July cover. Readers will have the chance to vote for their favorite band from London, Berlin, Stockholm, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney, or Paris in hopes of getting their favorite band on the cover.

It’s a unique idea that really takes advantage of online media. People like to feel involved with what they’re reading, so this issue will probably be a huge success for Nylon. According to the publisher of Nylon, Jaclynn Jarrett, reported by WWD, “traffic to nylonmag.com had quadrupled only two days after the promotion was launched and daily visits to the magazine's MySpace.com page increased by a factor of 50.”

The Nylon website will also capitalize on this contest by posting exclusive videos of various bands during the voting process. This is a great idea because it will draw readers to the website and get them more involved with the magazine. As interactive online media becomes more and more popular, print magazines and newspapers have to come up with inventive ways to create the same kind of concept. The contest is a good jumping-off point and there will probably be more linking between the website and the print edition in the future.
