Blogging Makes an Editor-in-Chief Relatable

Lucy Danziger, editor-in-chief of Self magazine, blogs to show that even the top editor a major women’s health and well-being magazine isn’t perfect and sometimes gives in to those chocolate cravings, just like every other woman.

“I think being out front and personal is a good thing because the readers can see that I, too, struggle with issues of how to eat healthy, take care of myself, and find time to de-stress,” said Danziger. “If I were perfect, I couldn’t empathize with other women.”

The fact that the editor-in-chief is so relatable is probably a big part of the reason that Self is such a success. I mean, who wants to listen to a know-it-all every month? I know I’d much rather hear the voice of a woman who truly knows and understands why it’s hard to eat right and exercise as much as you should.

“I do some things well (exercise) and some things less well (nutrition), so the fact that we are all working on improving parts of our lives brings us together,” said Danziger. “That is the Self woman: the one who is trying to do her best, and by that, I mean trying. It isn't always easy, but it is always worth it!”
